DISCOVERED VOICES: The Ancient Jewish Cemeteries of Padua

Special tour: 10 November at 11 a.m.

Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Padua’s Jewish community with a special visit to the city’s ancient Jewish cemeteries.

Sunday 10 NOVEMBER 2024, we will offer a special visit at 11.00 a.m. to discover together the Ancient Jewish Cemeteries in the historical centre of Padua.

The route will start at the cemetery on Via Wiel, which houses tombs from the 16th and 18th centuries – including that of the important rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen – and then continue to the adjacent 18th-century cemetery on Via Campagnola and end at the 19th-century cemetery on Via Canal.

In these cemeteries, we will review the symbols carved on gravestones and understand their meanings, while also recounting the rituals associated with death in Judaism.

We would like to remind you that only on Sunday 10 NOVEMBER it will be possible to complete the visit to the Jewish Padua Museum and the Italian Synagogue at a cumulative price.
