Activity description:
The educational workshop The Object Most Dear to Me aims to make students reflect on the events of Nazi-fascist deportations and the ways in which they were carried out.
For an overview of historical events, first of all, students will be provided with an explanation focusing on the fundamental events that marked the persecution of the rights and lives of Italian Jews, and in particular those from Padua, between 1938 and 1945.
By examining lists of inventoried objects from the homes of Jews arrested in Padua and the Vo' Vecchio concentration camp, we will then go on to reflect on the personal significance of the objects and the meaning behind them.
Following an active approach, the activity will continue by asking each of the participants to think of an object particularly dear to them that represents them and is part of their own experience: in the concluding part, this object will be revealed and told to the class to increase the degree of knowledge and cohesion among the classmates, generating a reflection on how objects can speak about us and be witnesses to memories.
Finally, the students will be asked to choose, in a motivated manner, one of the objects on the lists of arrested Jews to hold a piece of their history and take it with them.
Obiettivi:
- Introducing students to the history and events of the years of Nazi-fascist persecution of Jews, with a focus on the case of Padua
- Dealing with official documents on the arrests and deportations of Paduan Jews
- Re-elaborate in a personal way the meaning of personal stories told through objects so that the students can in turn become witnesses and true memory bearers
