Activity description:
The educational workshop Miracle at Chanukah will offer students an in-depth exploration of the festival of Chanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights, which commemorates the miracle that occurred shortly after the reconquest of the Temple in Jerusalem in 168 BCE.
They will then be told about the traditions associated with this Jewish holiday, and to fully understand them, they will be shown two objects: the large Chanukiah, a nine-branched lamp, housed in the Museum, and the Dreidel, the spinning top that, among the four Hebrew letters it bears, hides the memory of the great miracle that occurred.
Goals:
- Learning about the history and traditions of the Jewish holiday of Chanukah
- Learning to play with the dreidel, also introducing some letters of the Hebrew alphabet
- Observing a specific object to understand its significance
