Activity description:
The educational laboratory A comparison on the racial laws aims to implement a two-person discussion, following the Jewish study method of the Talmud, for the understanding and re-elaboration of the fascist racial laws.
Students will work in pairs on the original text of the Racial Laws, promulgated by the Italian government starting from the autumn of 1938, discussing the various parts. The working couple will be asked to identify with two opposing points of view in the debate: one will put themselves in the shoes of the legislator, while the other in those of those who have suffered the effects of these laws.
The workshop will be framed starting from an explanation focused on the fundamental events that marked the persecution of the rights and lives of Italian Jews, and in particular those of Padua, between 1938 and 1945. A page from the Talmud will also be presented to introduce the study method.
Objective:
- Bring students closer to the history and events of the years of Nazi-fascist persecution of Jews, with a focus on the case of Padua
- Confront the legal aspect that characterized this historical phase and which is linked to the general facts
- Re-elaborate in a personal way the meaning of racial laws and discrimination so that students can in turn become witnesses and true bearers of memory
- Know and experience the Talmudic study method
