May 26th, 1939: Georg Koblinsky validates his passport according to the Nazi Regime regulations
In the German Reich, under the Nazi dictatorship, the passports of the Jews had had to comply with the existing rules, since 1938. To validate the document a red letter J, standing for Jude i.e. Jew in German, had to be written by the competent offices together with the names Israel or Sara – depending on the applicant’s sex – just below or next to it the real name. People had to pay for the validation. In Koblinsky’s case, as from the document, a payment of 28, 80 marks was made.
