July 17th, 1944: Vo’ Vecchio Concentration Camp was emptied: the interned Jews were deported to Auschwitz
At 10:30pm on July 17th, 1944 Maresciallo Salvatore Lepore presented a handwritten document through which he informed that all the Jews interned at Villa Venier in Vo’ Vecchio Concentration Camp, had been taken away except for two men. A police officer had escorted Elia Jesses and Enzo Franco to Padua, on a medical. Lepore asks the Police Headquarters in Padua to track them down.
Forty-seven Jews from Padua were deported to Auschwitz in July 1944.
